From the Principal’s Office
Dear Families,
Hurray, it’s summer! That means fun summer activities here at Discovery Isle. We will be hosting a summer luau in July as well as having a magic show. In August a ventriloquist will entertain us and of course, we will be having fun splash days once a week all summer long.
With the summer comes the heat so please be extra safe when out and about. Always wear sun screen, stay hydrated, and please never leave your pets in the car.
Many families will be going on vacation so our focus this summer will be on fun summer themes. We want everyone to enjoy the summer and relax as much as possible.
Aloha,
Christy and Tina

-Wildlife (Safari Park)
-Dinosaurs (Balboa Park)
-Transportation (Balboa Park)
-Sports
-Cooking (Farmer’s Markets)

Beach Time is Here
We are lucky to live in San Diego as we have access to many gorgeous beaches. Here a few tips to help you pack fun, yummy, and stress free beach picnics.
-Skip foods with mayonnaise and eggs as they spoil easily in the sun
-Wraps and roll ups are great alternatives to sandwiches as no one wants to eat sand
-Pasta salads with vegies are yummy and easy to pack
-Cut up summer fruit and make individual fruit cups for each person (try watermelon, blueberries, and blackberries)
-Kebobs/skewers are an easy and fun way to avoid the sand: fruit, cheese, and vegies are all good options
-Pack lots of ice water in reusable bottles, and juice pouches for lunch time
-Trail mix, sesame sticks, and specialty crackers make good snacks
– And of course don’t forget dessert; cookies are great take alongs
Pack-able Pasta Salad
Ingredients:
1 pound tri-colored rotini pasta, uncooked (or bow tie pasta)
1 teaspoon olive oil
1 cup broccoli florets, cut into small pieces
1 1/2 cups thick-sliced English cucumber

1/2 a purple onion, diced
1 1/2 cups Italian salad dressing
½ cup Parmesan cheese or cubed mozzarella cheese
Instructions
Cook the pasta in boiling water with the olive oil until cooked. Let cool.
